Former Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr. Ray Nnaji, on Thursday, emerged as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.

In his acceptance speech, Nnaji said that Enugu is a PDP state and therefore should remain so. He called party members to support Governor Sullivan Chime’s government to make a success of it.
The new chairman said that despite the fact that party members could disagree, this should not degenerate to a political war that could tear the party apart.
Nnaji said: “Fellow compatriots and members of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it is a thing of immerse joy to me that we are assembled here to exhibit our well cherished democratic values.
“It is heartwarming that as democrats we were in this contest in our commitment to the ideals of the party, (PDP).
“I thank you so much for the confidence in my colleagues and me, having sufficiently considered our ability and contributions to our great party all these days.
“My word for you today is that we have a new day, giving birth to a new hope: a new day giving vent to our strength and coverage of Enugu State and a new hope in contributing our quota to the increased advancement of our great party in the national sphere.
“As you all know, Enugu State is a PDP State. The least we can achieve now is to strengthen the clout of the party in our state.
“For me and I can be sure of my colleagues, the best way forward is for us to pool our resources, resolve and vision to making the Sullivan Chime administration an immerse success.
“To this effect, I call on PDP members, lovers of democracy and believers in good order to quickly rally round the administration of Chime to make success of his tenure, so that the next time we move around to canvass voters among our people, we will be well perceived.
“It is also important that I mention some matters relating to some issues of disagreement at various levels. To be candid with you, I do not think we should worry about variety of vote if indeed we are serious about democracy. Democracy is about multiplicity of views and contest of interests. For good democrats mere variations in view points cannot mean quarrel and cannot mean disintegration of the party. People are and indeed, should be free to differ, but where we need consensus we shall, as democrats, strive to moderate, adjust and in some cases, reach compromise so as to have the train of development, continuous in its strides.
