The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua, has promised to transform Nigeria into one of the modern industrialized nations of the world if voted into office this year.

Alhaji Yar’adua, who is also the Governor of Katsina State, made the promise during a state banquet/cultural night hosted in his honour by the Enugu State Government to round off his presidential campaign tour of the state.

The PDP presidential flag bearer also promised to continue to implement the reform programme of the present administration designed to better the lots of the citizenry and launch the nation to greater heights.

In his words, “I want to assure you that the government, by the grace of God, which we shall form, come May this year, will continue to implement the reform programmes of this administration”.

He also told the people that the seven points agenda in the PDP manifesto will be pursued sincerely and with a high sense of responsibility.

According to him “Our PDP manifesto to transform Nigeria to greater nation and our seven-point agenda will be implemented honestly sincerely and with a sense of responsibility”.

Alhaji Yar’Adua described Enugu State as the home of PDP, adding that the entire South East zone had been a major supporter of the party from 1998 till date.

He therefore appealed to the people of Enugu State and the entire South-East zone to remain committed and ensure that PDP emerges winner in the forthcoming election.

In his speech, the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmadu Ali, called on the people to vote massively for the party at the April polls, adding that what gets to states at the end of the day will depend on the percentage of votes they give to the party at the polls.

According to him, “the PDP, by the grace of God will reward everybody according to his contribution. The change this time and the percentage of vote you give us will make a difference in what we give you.”

Senator Ali praised the state Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, for his outstanding performance and said that Enugu State under the Governor had done very well in infrastructure and capacity building.

"Enugu State has done well. I must tell you that, because you have got an excellent Governor who knows his onions and who believes in the service of the people… He is ready to get the best for the people and he has got the very best for his people,” Senator Ali said.

The PDP Chairman therefore advised the party’s governorship candidate for the state, Barrister Sullivan Chime, to be a good student and learn from the governor the path of sincere service to the people and carry on with the legacies and programmes he is leaving behind.

In his brief remarks, the state Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, described the ceremony as symbolic and momentous, while commending the leadership of the PDP for the able way Governor Nnamani said that Enugu state was for the PDP and would continue to support the party, its leadership and government at all times.

The cultural night was attended by PDP chieftains, including Chief Tony Anenih, Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, General Buba Marwa, among others.
