The Enugu State Government has restated its resolve to collaborate with international organizations to reduce human suffering and provide access to such things that would make life better for the people. The State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, stated this when he received a team of American Rotary Volunteers who are in the state to monitor the ongoing nationwide immunization programme against polio. According to Governor Nnamani, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government, Dr. Dan Shere, "Enugu State has resolved to collaborate with Rotary International to provide access to things that will make life better and reduce suffering by the people", he said. Governor Nnamani noted that Enugu State Government and Rotary International shared a lot in common, especially in the areas of selfless service to humanity, the poor, women and children as well as the provision of infrastructure to the people. In his words "Rotary is an international organization that shares a lot of similarities with the state in service to humanity, service in defense of the poor, women and children, the aged, the oppressed in the society and in the provision of basic amenities and other infrastructures". He therefore thanked the volunteers for selecting Enugu among the states
to be visited and their invaluable contribution in the fight against
polio, other child killer and preventable diseases in Nigeria and across
the globe. Earlier in his speech, the leader of the team, Rotarian Arnie Dowdy, told the Governor that they would be in the state for the next six days to monitor the ongoing nationwide immunization against polio virus with a view to ensuring that it was carried out satisfactorily. He noted with satisfaction that Enugu State recorded zero case of wild polio virus since 2004, adding that their visit would help to ensure that the record was maintained.
