Gov. Nnamani left no N4 billion debt
June 10, 2007

PRESS RELEASE

The attention of Chimaroke Nnamani, immediate past Governor of Enugu State and Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District, has been drawn to a report in one of the national dailies, which claimed that the immediate past government which he headed, left a debt profile as huge as four billion Naira, for the new administration. The report also claimed that the former Governor, now Senator, has pressured the new government to appoint certain persons into the new administration.

For the avoidance of doubt, there is no truth whatsoever in the report. Although Senator Chimaroke Nnamani does not find anything fruitful in unnecessary media exchange, especially with those whose stock-in-trade is to sow seeds of discord, it is worth restating, very firmly, that the immediate past administration never contemplated and so did not leave any debt overhang, be it with the banks or anywhere in the world, for the current administration in Enugu State.

In the same vein, the report by the national daily that ex-Governor Nnamani demanded of the present Governor to appoint some persons into offices clearly emanated from the fertile imagination of the reporter whose representative interest had long failed in gripping the political control of Enugu State, but which still thinks that it can, through their often-used State Correspondent of the national daily, find a foothold in imaginary seeds of discord where none will ever grow.

Having held sway in the long-distance eight-year run in the political firmament of Enugu State , Chimaroke Nnamani understands the terrain and can foretell this cheap design by stalwart opposition elements to seek gaps where they can sow such seeds of disharmony. Unfortunately for them, the relationship between the Senator/immediate past governor and the present governor, His Excellency, Sullivan Chime, remains warm and unhindered.

For the umteenth time, let it be restated that Governor Nnamani has not abandoned his seat in the Senate of the Federal Republic and would be back in a few days to play his part in building the nation, Nigeria.

Of course, against the background of a noted persistent attempt by reckless Correspondents, who took liberty in the lenience and accommodation by Nnamani when he was Governor, let it be clearly stated that any such unwarranted and malicious attack on his person will be met with litigation as the former Governor owes himself the duty of retaining his well merited reputation.

Indeed, in this particular case, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, has retained the services of Dr. Chris Uche, SAN, to proceed, at once, with legal action against this very national daily and its State Correspondent, for deliberately publishing the unfounded and malicious story of former Governor Nnamani leaving a four-billion Naira debt overhang on the new administration.
