The Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, has commended the Methodist Church Nigeria for her invaluable contributions to the socio-economic and educational development of the Nigerian nation.

Governor Nnamani made the commendation while speaking as special guest of honour during the inauguration and enthronement ceremony of the new Methodist Diocese of Agbani at the weekend.

The Governor noted with satisfaction the dynamism and new approach to evangelism introduced by the leadership of the church which he said were lacking in the Methodist before.

He specifically praised the immediate past Prelate of the Methodist Church and his crop of Bishops for this positive development and urged them not to relent.

Governor Nnamani, who is a third generation Methodist, restated his strong attachment to the church and his administration's commitment to the growth and development of the church and other religious denominations and organizations in the country.

The Governor announced that a new Cathedral befitting the status of the new Agbani Diocese would be built and handed over to the church by the end of this year.

He explained that judging from his background and what he went through right from childhood till now, he had every reason to thank and give all glory to God, adding that that was why his administration was identified with the statement "To God be the Glory."

In his speech while inaugurating the new Agbani Diocese, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Ola Makinde commended Governor Nnamani for his landmark achievements in the state and special interest in the affairs of the church.

The Prelate used the occasion to call on Nigerians to ensure that credible candidates were elected into power in the forthcoming general elections.

He also appealed to electorate to be very careful with their vote and to ensure that God fearing candidates who could perform were voted for at all levels.

According to him "if you elect God fearing, honest and corrupt-free persons, you will make heaven and will make Nigeria a great nation," he said.

Rt. Rev. Makinde charged the new Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Chilo Okenwa, religious leaders and their followers to shun corruption and remain faithful stewards, adding that God would always reward faithful servants.

More than thirty Methodist Bishops from within and outside Nigeria were present at the inauguration ceremony which featured praise songs.

Highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of the Diocese and the laying of the foundation stone for the Diocesan Cathedral church building.
