Governor Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu State has called on leaders of the PDP
to ensure that the forthcoming primaries and congresses in the state are conducted
according to the party constitution and guidelines.
Addressing separate meetings of members of the State Working Committee
of the PDP, political appointees and local government party chairmen
and secretaries, in the state at the Government House, Enugu, Governor
Nnamani insisted
that the forthcoming party primaries and congresses must be conducted
in a most transparent, free and fair manner, stressing that imposition
of candidates were totally unacceptable.
Governor Nnamani, who is the leader of the party in the state, assured
that the congresses and primaries must be
transparent and violent free.
The governor told the party leaders that the PDP in Enugu State was
one family made up of brothers and sisters, adding that there was nothing
like coalition or
authentic PDP in the state.
According to the governor, "The PDP in Enugu State is one family, one
group, we are all brothers and sisters, therefore the congresses should be
seen not as if you are fighting another set of people with their delegates,
it is one group," he said.
He used the occasion to restate the party's commitment to ensure a
level playing field for everybody to participate in the elections
conducted for delegates to
emerge, adding that whoever emerges from the PDP family would have
the support of others.
In his words, "we expect elections to be conducted for the various
candidates to emerge, we do not have any special interest... because
whoever emerges
as long as the person emerges from the PDP in the state
has our support."
Governor Nnamani made it clear that if that is done especially during
the November 4, 2006 ward congresses, it would guarantee
accommodation to everybody including
those within and those in opposition, adding that every other
thing would follow smoothly.
The state party leader then advised those who are interested in the
various political offices to intensify efforts, show more commitments
and go down to
their various wards and council areas and canvass for their support.
The governor used the occasion to thank the party leaders and the political
appointees for their selfless service, dedication to duty and assistance to
both government and the party in the state in the past years.
