Enugu restates commitment to NYSC members |

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, has restated his commitment to provide adequate assistance and conducive environment for the members of the National Youth Service Corps to serve in the State. He restated this commitment during the closing ceremony of the 2006 Batch "B" Orientation Course for corps members at the Awgu Orientation Camp Ground, Enugu State. The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Okechukwu Itanyi, told corps members to be steadfast and committed to the task ahead of them as they were being sent to their various place of primary assignment. According to him "as corps members, you should make positive attempt at making the life of the people in you place of assignment better." While declaring the course closed, he urged the corps members to exhibit key interest in the various activities they would be involved in, and hoped that their efforts would prove useful for the challenges ahead of them. Earlier in his speech, Governor Nnamani commended the efforts of the State Director, Mr. Augustine Arokoyo, who's advice, he said, had helped in so may ways. He therefore encouraged employers to extend their usual hospitality to them to enable them deliver the best they can. While noting his utmost satisfaction with the high level of self discipline, dedication, commitment and determination shown by obedient batch of corps members throughout the orientation course, Mr. Arokoyo said the period of orientation had been very rewarding. His words: "there is no gainsaying that the period of orientation has indeed proved a very rewarding experience having exposed you to a great deal of leadership and physical training designed to acquaint you with challenges ahead which you are likely to face during the National Service." "I most heartily commend your participation in orientation activities. I feel so convinced that you have been adequately equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead," he said further. He urged them to remain undaunted and resolved to contribute their quota towards national development as they reported to their different places of primary assignment. "It is pertinent to remind you to maintain high standard of morality as worthy ambassadors of the NYSC scheme and note that the consideration and assessment for state honours award starts from the Orientation Camp and continues throughout your period of service." Mr. Arokoyo then acknowledged the efforts of the Enugu State Government at ensuring that the orientation course was a huge success by addressing some of the perceived challenges. "May I at this junction appreciate the support and contribution of the state government to the smooth implementation of NYSC programmes in the state. I only wish this magnanimity and goodwill will be sustained." He stated further that as they had acquainted themselves with the culture, norms and values of the people of Enugu State, the corps members should occupy themselves with worthwhile ideas and learn virtues of hardwork, diligence and dedication to duty as they were being sent into the wider society of the state. He then assured them of the state government's commitment in ensuring that their stay in the state is a memorable one by addressing the basic welfare needs of corps members posted to them and creating an enabling environment for optimum performance |
