The retiring Prelate of the Methodist Church
Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Sunday Mbang, has described the landmark achievements
of Governor Chimaroke
Nnamani in Enugu State as unprecedented and worthy of emulation.
Speaking at a State Banquet organized in his honour by the State Government at the Government House, Enugu, the retiring Prelate noted that the magnitude and quality of newly completed developmental projects in the State were clearly indicative that the little allocations given to the state were judiciously utilized by the governor. According to him, "I believe that you have come here to serve and you have served creditably. Sometimes I wonder where you got the money to do what we have seen on ground today in your state.” Dr. Mbang, who was a one time President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), thanked the Governor for his support to the churches in the country and suggested that all those who were aspiring to governorship position in the country should emulate his style of leadership. He said further, "I want to thank you for all the support you have been given to us not just for the state, not only our church alone, but to other churches. I believe that God called you to come to Enugu and you have done the best you can.. Any of you who wants to be Governor, please copy Nnamani because he has set example that everybody should be proud of,” he said. The Methodist Prelate specifically mentioned the Ebeano Tunnel which he described as the best and first of its kind in the country, the Judiciary Headquarters, the International Conference Centre and ESUT Permanent Site as well as College of Medicine and said: "if they have not decided to thank you, I want to thank you for what you have done for the people of Enugu State". In his speech, the State Governor, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, described the retiring Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Mbang as an epitome of Methodism. The Governor noted that no other person has contributed to the development of Methodist Church in Nigeria like Dr. Sunday Mbang. According to the Governor, "your cannot describe Methodist Church in Nigeria without talking of Dr. Mbang. I say so because no other person or living people has bestowed or symbolized a church in Nigeria the way he has done.” The Governor, who is a third generation Methodist, described his involvement with the church as expected, a responsibility and a call to duty and thanked the Prelate for his support to his government and people of Enugu State. In his words, "my involvement with the Methodist church is expected, for me it is a duty, it is responsibility." He therefore commended the role of the church specially in the areas of health, education and cultural development of the people and expressed the hope that the church would continue to play the same role even in the future. “We hope and pray that the light he has lit in Methodist church and indeed the church in Nigeria and the church internationally will continue to flourish", said the governor. |
