The Governor of Enugu State Chimaroke Nnamani has called for urgent attention to the fast deteriorating state of federal roads across the country. Governor Nnamani made the call when he received in audience the Minister of Works, Chief Cornelius Adebayo, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Enugu. The Governor said that a lot is needed to be done in the rehabilitation of the roads now that the rain is subsiding and especially during these ember months when the volume of vehicular movement on the roads is expected to increase. According to the Governor, "there is no doubt that a lot needs to be done in the area of road rehabilitation and we know that six to seven months is a long time. . ." He described Chief Adebayo as a great Nigerian who had contributed in no small way to the polity and to the socio-cultural and political lives of the people and expressed the hope that with his past track records he would leave a positive mark in the Ministry. In his words, "Chief Adebayo is a symbol of achievement and humility... I believe you still have time to leave your footprints on the sands of time, especially in the Federal Ministry of Works" he said. Governor Nnamani advised that the Minister should start a process and urged the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to rise up to their duty. Responding, the Minister Chief Adebayo noted with dismay the difficulties Nigerians were going through as a result of the poor condition of the roads and told the Governor that he was in Enugu to see things for himself. Chief Adebayo stated that having been one month in office, the visit was to help familiarize himself with the challenges ahead and how best to tackle them within the limited time available. He described Governor Nnamani as a product of rich ancestry and commended
him for the landmark achievement he made in the State, especially in the
areas of infrastructure, human capacity and economic development |
