“ Enugu State Government considers itself labour friendly and people oriented, all in hope of alleviating poverty and improving peoples' welfare.” The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, stated this through his deputy, Chief Okechukwu Itanyi, while receiving the Director General of National Pensions Commission, Mr. A.K Ahmad who paid him a courtesy visit, recently. Governor Nnamani also said that the legacies of infrastructural development left by his government is a proof of this. He also hoped that the new National Pensions Scheme will help in improving peoples' welfare. "We have also embarked on education, health and other reforms in line with President Olusegun Obasanjo's reform agenda", Governor Nnamani said. Governor Nnamani also stated that the public seminar to be held by the Commission will help the people to be better informed about the scheme. He also hoped that other states in the South East will follow suit in the Pension reform scheme so as not to deny their people the benefits of the reform. "We have always led and they have always followed", Governor Nnamani said. Earlier on the Director General of National Pensions Scheme, Mr. A.K.Ahmed stated that the scheme is for effective management of pension fund and also stated that he was in Enugu to tell the people of the council of states' directive for the states to put contributory pension scheme in place. Mr. Ahmed also said that the scheme will be in the interest of the workers,
as every worker is expected to get his terminal benefits promptly upon retirement
courtesy of the contributory pension scheme at variance with the old days
of waiting for terminal benefits till God knows when. |
